The presenter shared some photos to Instagram on Monday, revealing ambulances were called on the weekend after her mother suffered a life-threatening allergic reaction.

One picture shows a downbeat looking Gemma staring worriedly at the camera from the back of an ambulance and another shows paramedics entering her property.

‘On Saturday morning I was at Mum and Dad’s house. Mum popped upstairs to grab something… and a couple of minutes later Dad rushed downstairs and said, “Mum’s really not well. You should go up”,’ she wrote next to the photos.

‘I walked into a scene I was not expecting. Mum barely breathing, unable to talk, ashen grey, swollen blue lips… My fiancé raced up to help and we juggled trying to help her with 000 communications.

Fortunately, the paramedics arrived in time and were able to successfully treat her mother before things got worse.

‘From the bleakest possible scenario, everything then went our way,’ she added.

‘The paramedics arrived within 8 minutes and were able to resuscitate and stabilise her after 40 minutes.

‘We now know everything except her vital organs had shut down after what would have been a fatal anaphylactic reaction without urgent professional help,’ she added.

Gemma then said the incident occurred after her mother took some over the counter medication, warning her followers to be careful when doing the same.

‘This was a standard OTC painkiller for back pain and Mum has never had an anaphylactic reaction to anything in her entire life until now.’
