A mother is furious after her defenceless seven-year-old daughter was allegedly viciously bashed at a playground by a teenage girl.

Disturbing video filmed at Cairns in North Queensland on March 26 shows the girl, who is in Grade 2, climbing on the playground equipment as a group of older girls stand nearby.

One of the older girls allegedly repeatedly punches the child and then stomps on her head. The other older girls run away as the youngster can be heard screaming.

Cairns Child Protection and Investigation Unit detectives have charged a 13-year-old girl with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm.

She will appear in Cairns Children’s Court at a later date.

The girl’s mother said she was ‘disgusted’ over the alleged incident and also that the video had been shared online.

‘You just don’t ever want that to happen and it feels so far out of your control,’ she told The Cairns Post.

‘If anyone sees something like this circulating online, or even watches this kind of event in person, I really do urge people to go straight to authorities.’

She said her daughter has bruising on her head but is recovering well.

‘She’s a tough little cookie… Ultimately I want her to understand that this isn’t normal and it definitely isn’t okay.’

She said she rushed her daughter to the emergency room when she returned home with a bruise on her head.

The local community have been lending their support to the family by dropping off gifts including teddy bears and the school has been in touch and said they are prepared to be flexible with her classes while she recovers.

The girls mother said she was speaking out because she wanted people to know that filming allegedly violent incidents instead of stepping in was not okay, let alone sharing it online.
