Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon under fire for bold wardrobe choice to promote ‘And Just Like That…’

Sex and the City actress Cynthia Nixon is being slammed for appearing to wear a Palestine flag shirt in the new season three trailer of the controversial spinoff And Just Like That.

The trailer, released on Tuesday, featured Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Nixon all back in their beloved respective roles of Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York and Miranda Hobbes.

In one scene of the nearly three-minute clip, Nixon appears on screen wearing a bifurcated button-down shirt, with one half bearing the colors and pattern of the Palestinian flag.

‘What’s in store for season three?’ Nixon asks while wearing the controversial shirt paired with a red tie.

Nixon denied the shirt was a subtle tactic to share her support for Palestine, but the one-time New York Gubernatorial candidate has been outspoken about her stance on the Israel-Hamas war.

‘The shirt was provided to Cynthia at an And Just Like That marketing shoot by the series wardrobe department. Any similarities to the colors are coincidence,’ a representative for Nixon told Newsweek.

Social media users were quick to criticize Nixon for wearing the flag of a country whose leadership does not support gay rights.

‘Actress and LGBTQI+ activist Cynthia Nixon, who is a lesbian, wears Palestine flag colored shirt to show solidarity with Palestine despite LGBT people being persecuted in Gaza and the West Bank,’ one person said.

‘Cynthia Nixon has unofficially crowned herself the Grand Marshal of the next Hamas Pride Parade – because siding with anti-progressives is now a progressive credential,’ said another.

‘As a lesbian, I cannot fathom ever donning the flag of a country that wants me dead. This is selling out,’ a third person added.

Nixon has been married to a woman, Christine Marinoni, since 2012. She also revealed in February that her son, her sister’s kids, and her best friend’s kid are all proudly trans during a protest in New York City.

The Hamas-led Islamic Middle Eastern state follows sharia law, and as noted by Amnesty International, it is not safe for the queer community. 

Others slammed her using her outfit in the promo to send a political message and some even said they would stop watching the show.

Actor Michael Rapaport said, ‘Look at this animal. This animal is wearing a Chic Terror outfit, the animal probably took the time to have it custom made. This animal is wearing a chic outfit with the inverted red triangle.

‘Does this animal know that an inverted red triangle is the symbol used by terrorists to mark targets they want to take out. My dumb animals of SAG list is starting today.’

‘And just like that I’m likely not watching this show or skipping over the boring Miranda parts because her story line is boring,’ said a third person.

Others expressed their support for the fashion choice and Nixon’s outspoken liberal values.

‘Cynthia Nixon you will always be famous,’ one person said. ‘I saw it and instantly knew MY QUEEN,’ said another.

A third person said, ‘Miranda never goes out of style—a time-tested classic.’

Newsweek reported that the shirt appears to be designed by Calvin Klein, based on a 2018 Facebook post from the designer that shows actress Cate Blanchett wearing a similar shirt to that year’s Festival de Cannes.

In the wake of the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, Nixon went on a three-day hunger strike.

Nixon, who is the mother of two Jewish children with her ex-husband, demanded that Former President Joe Biden call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

She also signed an open letter that was signed by 260 other artists and addressed to the president and Congress demanding a ceasefire in the region.
