Shakira reveals her son Milan, 11, dealt with her split from Gerard Pique through music: ‘He wrote two beautiful songs’

Shakira revealed how hard her split from her ex Girard Pique was on her sons Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9.

During an interview with Zane Lowe she explained that her sons know music is ‘one of my ways to heal and to express myself,’ and said Milan started writing songs and music as a way to cope with the split.

‘I remember he wrote two beautiful songs during the whole separation process,’ the Colombia bombshell, 47, said.

‘He wrote two songs on piano and lyrics. And whenever he feels a little down, he goes to the piano and he writes,’ she added.

‘And that also is his catharsis, his therapy. I think he’s probably going to be a producer, but he’s obsessed with football,’ the proud mom – who compared her ex to Voldemort – said.

The Hips Don’t Lie singer added that she and her sons ‘share a love for music’ and ‘sometimes we jam together.’

She continued: ‘Sasha is learning how to play guitar and Milan is a really cool drummer and so he gets on the drums, Sash on guitar, I sing, and we jam at home.’

Shakira and Pique had a contentious split and the former Super Bowl Halftime Show performer does her best to shield her kids from all the news about their parents’ split.

‘I try to do it and to protect them, because that’s my number one mission in life,’ she told Elle.

Previously, the Grammy winner opened up about being a single mother and a pop star and the challenges that presents.

‘Sometimes I think being a single mom and the rhythm of being a pop star aren’t compatible,’ she told Billboard.

‘I have to put my kids to bed, go to the recording studio; everything is uphill.’

Shakira’s new album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, drops on May 22 and she shared some steamy new photos with Emily in Paris star Lucien Laviscount, 31.

The two star in her highly anticipated music video for her new song Punterí, which is a collab with Cardi B.

‘Fine-tuning the shot with @its_lucien in Punteria #LMYNL,’ she captioned the shots.

Shakira rocked long, wavy pink hair and a pink dress that bared a lot of cleavage while Lucien wore only a pair of white shorts.

As the Waka Waka hitmaker looked directly at the camera, Lucien has his legs and arms wrapped around her.

Also included on her new album is  a ‘diss track’ about her ex.

‘Voldemort, that one that shouldn’t be mentioned?’ she said when asked about the connection between her ex and the lyrics.

‘It’s hopefully the last song that I will write about this, and to him,’ she added.

She added: ‘I felt that there was still something there, stuck in my throat, and I needed to get it out.

I played it to the marketing head at Sony and he started crying. I’d never seen a man cry in my studio before.
