Emmy Rossum is shamelessly happy, and for good reason.
The 31-year-old actress, who headlines the Shameless series with William H. Macy, took to Twitter on Wednesday to beat the drum after Showtime’s ninth season renewal after its eighth season debut posted stellar ratings.
‘Because of your love we will be making A NINTH season of shameless. And thank you Showtime, John Wells & our writers,’ said the Manhattan native, who plays Fiona Gallagher on the hit show.

The dramatic comedy’s season debut this past Sunday had a 50 percent bump from its previous season premiere, with 1.86 million viewers, according to Deadline.
Many of Rossum’s peers in the cast also took to Twitter to celebrate the news of the show’s continuation.
Shanola Hampton wrote, ‘WoooooHOOOOO!!! I cannot tell you how grateful we are to all of you!!! So excited! Season 9!!!!’
Emma Kenney tweeted: ‘so its a season NINE pickup. damn, never thought id say that. thank you thank u we have the best fans, best cast, best crew best #shameless team. feeling so grateful!!!!!!’

David Nevins, the network’s president and CEO, lauded the show’s popularity and quality in a statement amid the program’s renewal.
‘As challenging as it can be for any show simply to maintain viewers in the current TV landscape, Shameless is adding them in droves,’ Nevins said. ‘But it’s no mystery why.
‘The series’ reputation for rich and resonant characters and for deep – and deeply twisted – comedy has drawn not only faithful longtime viewers, but a steadily growing audience.’
Nevins added that ‘creatively, the season that kicked off this past Sunday is stronger than ever.’

Producer John Wells lauded the network ‘for giving us the opportunity to continue making Shameless,’ adding, ‘It’s a labor of love (and a blast) for all of us.’
Last December, Rossum made headlines in holding out for a raise from Warner Bros. Television to make an equal salary as Macy for the show’s eighth season.
‘She credited her Academy Award-nominated colleague for having her back amid the potentially-risky career move.
‘I’ll tell you the person who supported me the most was William H. Macy,’ she told The Hollywood Reporter in June.
‘To have the man counterpart on my show be like, “Yes, she does deserve this and more” was so validating. And after it became public, it was a quick resolution.’
Emmy was also spotted enjoying a shopping trip in Beverly Hills on Wednesday after the renewal was announced.
