Shark attack at Beachport: Woman bitten on the leg

A woman has been rushed to hospital after she was bitten on the leg by a shark at a popular beach in South Australia. 

The swimmer, aged in her 50s, was attacked near the jetty at Beachport, about 311kms south-east of Adelaide, just before 8am on Monday.

Paramedics were called to the scene to treat the woman for extensive injuries to her leg.

Bystanders had helped pull the woman to shore and gave her first aid before emergency services arrived.

She is being transported to Mount Gambier Hospital and will then be flown to Adelaide for further treatment.

Her condition is unknown.
