Stone’s heartbreaking post comes after it was announced she will receive the Golden Icon Award at Zurich Film Festival.
She is set to receive the honour next month at the festival, according to The Hollywood Reporter, with the award ceremony then screening her 1996 movie Casino, which Stone received an Academy Award nomination for.
Speaking of the award, Stone has said: ‘It is an honour to engage with the global community and celebrate the profound depth of our art.’
‘I am thrilled to be recognised in this capacity,’ she added.
Zurich Film Festival’s artistic director, Christian Jungen, described Stone as ‘a woman Hitchcock would have loved’ and a ‘true icon of the seventh art’ in a statement.
‘Her distinguishing qualities include an irresistible charm, a great human depth, the talent to play a whole range of roles and the ability to captivate an audience like no other,’ Jungen said.
‘At a time when the film business was dominated by men, she stood her ground to fight against sexism and in doing so became a major role model for many women in the film business.’
The festival lauded Stone’s versatility, noting that she ‘refused to be typecast as a man-eating vamp’ after her ‘breakthrough role’ in 1992 classic Basic Instinct.
‘In fact, the actress, whose memoirs recently addressed the ills of Hollywood in the New York Times bestseller The Beauty of Living Twice, has proven herself to be an exceedingly versatile character actress,’ festival organisers said.
Stone, who has three teen sons – 21-year-old Roan, 16-year-old Laird and 15-year-old Quinn – is the fifth consecutive actress to receive the Golden Icon Award.
Past performers who received the honour include Cate Blanchett, Glenn Close, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Douglas, Richard Gere and Sean Penn.
