Sharon Stone will get the Golden Icon Award at Zurich Film Festival … which will screen her Oscar-nominated performance in Casino

Sharon Stone is set to receive the the Golden Icon Award at next month’s Zurich Film Festival in Switzerland.

Stone, 63, will accept the award September 25, according to The Hollywood Reporter, after which the film Casino will be screened, for which she earned an Academy Award nomination in 1996.

‘It is an honor to engage with the global community and celebrate the profound depth of our art,’ said the Basic Instinct beauty. ‘I am thrilled to be recognized in this capacity.’

The Sliver actress is also scheduled for participate in a masterclass on the craft of acting in speaking about her career and creative methods.

The festival’s artistic director, Christian Jungen, called Stone ‘a true icon of the seventh art,’ and ‘a woman that Hitchcock would have loved.’

Jungen said, ‘Her distinguishing qualities include an irresistible charm, a great human depth, the talent to play a whole range of roles and the ability to captivate an audience like no other. 

‘At a time when the film business was dominated by men, she stood her ground to fight against sexism and in doing so became a major role model for many women in the film business.’

The festival lauded Stone’s versatility in a statement, noting that she ‘refused to be typecast as a man-eating vamp’ after her ‘breakthrough role’ in 1992’s Basic Instinct.

‘In fact, the actress, whose memoirs recently addressed the ills of Hollywood in the New York Times bestseller The Beauty of Living Twice, has proven herself to be an exceedingly versatile character actress,’ festival organizers said.

Stone, who has three teen sons – 21-year-old Roan, 16-year-old Laird and 15-year-old Quinn – is the fifth consecutive actress to receive the honors.

Past performers to receive the honors include Cate Blanchett, Glenn Close, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Douglas, Richard Gere and Sean Penn.

The Zurich Film Festival is slated to be held September 23 thru October 3.
