Shayla Phillips: Tasmanian four-year-old girl disappears from backyard in Stormlea

Four-year-old girl DISAPPEARS playing in the backyard – as cops track down the dog she was last seen with but find no trace of the child

  • A search is ongoing for a Tasmanian child last seen in a backyard on Wednesday
  • The  search has continued overnight and police are appealing for assistance 
  • On Thursday morning a dog the girl was last seen playing with has been found

A massive search is underway to find a four-year-old girl who vanished after playing in her backyard on Wednesday afternoon. 

Shayla Phillips was last seen in the backyard of a home in isolated Stormlea in southern Tasmania, at 2.30pm. 

Shayla was wearing pink leggings, a cream top and gumboots, and was playing with two dogs before she went missing.

The search to find Shayla has continued overnight with Tasmania Police, SES, the Police Drone Unit, specialist dogs and a Westpac Rescue Helicopter all working to find the child.

The temperature dropped to 14 degrees in the area on Wednesday night.

Emergency services have found a dog believed to have been with Shayla when she was last seen.

Police have requested no further assistance in the search due to the isolation of the area. 

‘To ensure a coordinated and safe search, police advise that sufficient resources are currently deployed to the area and further assistance is not sought at this time.’
