A Sheffield school has been put on lock-down following a ‘mass riot’ which broke out earlier today and poured onto the streets.

Emergency services rushed to Fir Vale School in Sheffield after scores of children were seen congregating outside its gates following what police described as ‘reports of an altercation between a group of students’.

More than 15 police cars, including dog teams, were on the scene, and three ambulances were parked outside a separate entrance to the secondary school.

A police helicopter was also heard hovering above the school.

One witness told The Sun: ‘We drove past and all hell was breaking loose.

‘We saw two police riot vans and police dogs. We saw parents and pupils trying to climb over the fences.
