Sheriff: Deputy shoots and wounds woman, then kills self

A Florida sheriff’s deputy shot and wounded a woman and then fatally shot himself early Thursday morning.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that the shooting took place shortly after 8am at the Inlet Harbor Club in the 2000 block of North Federal Highway, located in a gated Boynton Beach neighborhood.

The names and races of those involved have not been released. The sheriff’s office said the woman was taken to Delray Trauma Center, where she was listed in critical condition. 

The deputy was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials did not disclose the nature of his relationship with the surviving victim. 

A local resident told Sun Sentinel he heard multiple gunshots and later learned about she shooting from his neighbors. 

No further details were immediately available about the incident, believed to be an attempted murder-suicide.
