A shirtless man ran off a bus after allegedly stealing another passenger’s wallet – and was promptly hit by an SUV which sent him flying into the air.

The suspect is seen on surveillance camera footage tussling with a 34-year-old man on the Ride On bus in Rockville, Maryland, before jogging out of the vehicle when it came to a stop with a wallet in his hand.

He then darts into incoming traffic with the owner of the wallet in pursuit, before a green Subaru SUV slams into his side, tossing him into the air before he comes smashing down onto the tarmac.

The suspect, who was wearing jeans and white trainers, manages to stagger to his feet and runs to the other side of the road with the other man a few feet behind. It is not clear whether he was badly injured.

Now police are hunting both the robbery suspect and the driver of the car, who they say could be facing charges for not stopping after the accident at around 2.30pm on April 13.

Captain Paul Starks, a spokesman for Montgomery County Police Department, told Bethesda Magazine: ‘If you have a collision, you’ve got to stop and render aid and identify yourself.’

Police have asked anyone with information about the suspects to contact the 1st District Investigative Section at 240-773-6084. A $10,000 reward is on offer for tips, which can be left at 866-411-TIPS (8477).
