Shock as Australian media tycoon dies following complications from knee surgery

Australian media tycoon Harold Mitchell has died at the age of 81.

Mr Mitchell died on Saturday, reportedly following complications relating to knee surgery.

The 81-year-old was the founder of Mitchell and Partners – the largest media and communications group in Australia.

His partner was ‘in shock’ at Mr Mitchell’s death, the Herald Sun reported. 

He founded his company almost half a century ago in 1976 and had a huge impact on the Australian advertising business.

In 2000 he set up the Harold Mitchell Foundation, which has raised millions of dollars for more than 100 organisations working in the health, education and arts sectors.
