Shock new weather forecast emerges ahead of Bills-49ers with Buffalo set for ‘hazardous conditions’

Buffalo could be left with up to eight inches of snow on the eve of the Bills’ clash with the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night, according to reports.

The Bills’ home matchup against the Niners is currently under a winter storm watch with heavy snow and strong winds set to hit Western New York in the coming days.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has warned there will be ‘hazardous conditions’; which includes wind chill and potential low visibility, with snow on the roads likely to affect travel.

It is unclear whether the Bills and the Niners will still be able to lock horns at Highmark Stadium on Sunday, especially in light of a new report from Buffalo television station WIVB-TV.

According to meteorologist Todd Santos, between four and eight inches of snow is expected to fall in Buffalo in the 24 hours leading up to kickoff.

Santos added that there is also likely to be light snow during Sunday’s game in Orchard Park.

But Bills head coach Sean McDermott still expects Sunday's fixture to go ahead in Buffalo

However, even eight inches of snow is unlikely to convince Bills head coach Sean McDermott that the fixture will be postponed.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the game, McDermott said about the worrying forecast: ‘I’ve always been amazed since moving here that you can get a foot, two feet, three feet, seven feet [of snow], and the roads are cleared in some miraculous way.

‘So credit to all the people that are out there working or will continue working as we get into the snowy days and weeks and months here.’

Heavy snow disrupted the Bills’ 2023 season, with their AFC Wild Card postseason matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers moved from a Sunday afternoon in January to a Monday after New York governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency due to a snow storm.

Shovel crews worked on clearing the stadium seats, walkways and tunnels after the initial delay as snow fell at a rate of more than two inches (5 centimeters) per hour, while crews also worked overnight to help the game eventually receive the green light on Monday.
