Shock twist after a mysterious bone washed up on a popular beach in Western Australia

A police investigation has confirmed the origins of a mysterious bone that washed up on a popular Perth beach.

The 40cm bone was spotted protruding from the sand at Cottesloe Beach at about 9am on Saturday.

WA Police secured the bone with the help of Surf Live Saving personnel.

The bone appears to be a femur; the bone within the thigh.

A police spokesman said the bone had since undergone further assessment by a pathologist who determined it was human.

‘Further forensic testing will now take place to match the bone to any outstanding missing persons,’ the spokesman said.
