Shock twist as Sam Kerr opens up about what is REALLY going on with the injury that kept her out of the Olympics

Football superstar Sam Kerr has made the surprising confession that her knee injury ‘isn’t her only problem’ as she refuses to reveal when she will finally return to the pitch.

It comes after Kerr, 31, previously stated she is refusing to rush her rehabilitation because her plan is to keep playing for ‘many years’.

‘I’m moving slowly….so it’s going to take a bit longer than I would like, me being an impatient person,’ Kerr said on the recent BBC’s Women’s Football Weekly podcast.

‘But I feel good, I feel strong, I feel healthy and my mind feels good, so I’m in a good place.’

She also stated there is a ‘little bit more going on than the ACL’ – but didn’t elaborate.

It comes after Kerr denied speculation on X in early September her return was imminent.

Responding to a tweet from Chelsea women’s content creator Rosie Dawson that the goal poacher would be back playing in October, Kerr’s response was succinct: ‘I don’t know who gave you this info, but sadly it’s wrong.’

The Matildas captain sustained her ACL injury during a training camp in Morocco back in January, and had to watch on as Chelsea won the Women’s Super League title in dramatic fashion.

Kerr also missed the Olympics in Paris with the knee complaint – but in better news, once she does once again lace her boots, a remarkable 100 goals as a Chelsea player awaits.

‘I’m lucky, my first goal’s going to be it,’ she said.

‘It’s going to be such an amazing moment, scoring 100 goals for Chelsea will be a big achievement for me. I’m excited.’

Away from football, Kerr faces a four-day criminal trial next February.

She was charged with racially aggravated harassment of a police officer – and will plead not guilty.

It stemmed from an alleged incident following a boozy night out in January of 2023, just months before the Women’s World Cup on home soil. 

If Kerr is convicted, the Matildas skipper faces a maximum sentence of two years in prison and could be deported from the UK in the worst-case scenario.
