Footage filmed on the M6 appears to show a lorry driver using his phone while driving.

The short clip, which was captured on Friday afternoon, seems to show the unknown driver looking at his phone in moving traffic.

The footage was captured from the passenger seat of another car on the road, near Knutsford, Cheshire.

The lorry appeared to belong to JBT Haulage and Transport, which said it had not seen the clip. The company’s manager was unavailable for comment.

The short clip, which is understood to have been captured on Friday afternoon, seems to show the driver looking at his phone in moving traffic.

The person who filmed the footage said: ‘As we were coming towards the end of the 18 miles of 50 mph average speed check area which ends around Knutsford, I noticed a wagon in the middle lane getting a little too close our van.

‘I noticed him holding his phone up not watching the road. He did it for so long that I decided to catch him in the act.

‘It’s narrow lanes and heavy traffic. This type of thing annoys me as I’ve nearly been hit multiple times by drivers like this.’

Vehicles such as the six-wheel lorry on display can weigh as much as 40 tonnes.

Last month a teenage driver was jailed after a man was killed in a crash just 25 seconds after she had texted her father.

Katie Foster was driving with her iPhone under her thigh and received a message only nine seconds before she swerved into the path of an oncoming car, killing tyre fitter Lee Cain, 36.

And last September Anthony Marston was killed when Michael Preston’s HGV crashed into him on the M6.

Examination of Preston’s phone showed he had been sending and receiving text messages while on the move.
