Catching a huge marlin in the middle of the ocean sounds like a fisherman’s dream but it proved nearly lethal for one Queensland man.
In a video uploaded by a Queensland fishing group, a fisherman can be seen trying to reel in a large catch before the marlin narrowly misses spearing him.
The fishermen initially seem unfazed by the fish on the line until they realise they’ve caught a marlin, and then all hell breaks loose.

When the giant fish breaks above the water, the group begin their desperate attempt to reel the marlin in.
With both men shouting at each other to ‘tag it’, the marlin leaps out of the water and barely misses spearing one of the fishermen in the head.
Despite holding on to the line for ‘dear life’, the huge blue fish, which can sometimes reach four metres in length, darts across the boat towards the fisherman.
‘The mighty blue powered itself away from the boat, full circle and them came leaping at us,’ one of the men wrote alongside their video.
One of the fishermen falls to the ground as the ‘big bloody fish’ splashes back into the ocean, snapping the line.
‘And just like that – GONE!!!’ the men wrote.
