Shona Sibary admits she changed her daughter’s name three

A mother-of-four has caused outrage for admitting she’s changed her daughter’s name three times.

Shoba Sibary, who lives in Surrey, said her youngest daughter Dolly, now eight, was originally called Delphine at birth.

Shona then had second thoughts and switched to Dolly, before opting for Dorothy and then finally going back to Dolly.

And she admitted she sometimes she even forgets her daughter’s current name because it’s changed so many times.

Speaking on This Morning, the journalist argued there was nothing wrong with changing a child’s name because pregnant women with ‘heartburn and hormones’ aren’t in the best frame of mind to choose it.

Her comments were slammed by viewers, who accused of her of being ‘selfish’ towards her daughter.

Shona is mum to Flo, 18, Annie, 17, Monty, 15, and Dolly, eight, and says she was very happy with her first three children’s names.

When it came to naming Dolly she felt pressured by her older children’s opinions about a name, and let them choose Delphine.

Shona says she ‘knew instantly’ that the name wasn’t right for her and recalled frantically phoning her husband in a panic when she registered her name.

She decided to put Dolly on her birth certificate, but her extended family had reservations about it, so she changed it again to Dorothy.

But then Shona went on to change it back to Dolly again, and is finally happy with it now.

She said: ‘I’m not sure, when you’re up to your eyes in heartburn and hormones, it’s the best times to make such a monumental choice in life.’

‘When I go to doctor’s surgery I can’t remember if it’s Dolly or Delphine, it’s confusing,’ she added.

Shona’s comments sparked fury among viewers, with many taking to Twitter to criticise her for changing the name three times.

One tweeted: ‘It is not OK to keep changing your child’s name! You will confuse them just for your selfishness.’

‘How do you change your child’s name THREE times and still settle on Dolly?’ another posted.

A third said: ‘This Shona wife is deluded. Your daughter is YOUR child. If no one else likes YOUR daughters name then that’s their opinion and shouldn’t be cause for you to change the name repeatedly.’

She was faced in the debate by comedian Judi Love, who said mums have enough time to choose a name and shouldn’t have to change it.

She said: ‘It depends on the age but personally I feel like you have enough time through your nine months and then your six weeks. Your name is your grounding for your identity, how people perceive you.’
