Five people have been killed in two connected shootings in Texas on Friday, according to police.

Authorities say three people were shot dead in a nursing home in a Corpus Christie suburb and two additional men were found dead at the home of one of the nursing home victims.

The shooter was also among those killed and police say the threat is ‘neutralized’.

Robstown City Secretary Herman Rodriguez says officers responded to the Retama Manor nursing home about 7pm Friday and found two men and a woman dead.

He says a phone call from family members prompted police to visit the residence of one of the nursing home victims, where the other two men were found dead.

All victems were dead on arrival, according to a police statement.

Rodriguez said authorities believe the shootings are related but have not identified the victims or established a possible motive.

The nursing home is a medium,  for-profit senior care community, with about 94 beds and has been in operation ‘for a number of years’, according to the police.

‘This is a profound incident that doesn’t really transpire too often in Robstown,’ Mr. Rodriguez said Friday.

‘We’re a small community and a lot of the families, we know each other.’

‘You never think it’s going to happen to your family,’ Doris Salazar told the Caller Times. Her mother is a resident of the nursing home.

‘You think they’re safe,’ she added.

Authorities say the information will remain ‘scarce’ as the investigation is ongoing with the help of the Texas Rangers.

‘Our hearts go out to the victim’s families and the residents, visitors and employees at Retama Manor who experienced this tragedy,’ Chief Erasmo Flores said in a statement.
