An Australian Aldi shopper was left baffled after finding a sealed packet of cheese mistakenly placed on the shelf with no product inside. 

Posting to popular Facebook group Aldi Fans Australia, the confused mum shared images of the Edam cheese slices packet she found in the fridge during a grocery shop with one major problem – there was no cheese inside. 

‘Aldi…the place to go if you’re wanting to cut down on food wastage. You can now buy empty packs of cheese,’ she joked.

Dozens of group members took to the comments to share their amusement with many joking the gaffe was the retailer’s new ‘diet cheese’. 

‘It’s the new low fat, no sugar, gluten free, meat free, nut free, dairy free and egg free cheese slices,’ one laughed and another wrote: ‘The weight loss version Aiŕ edam cheese slices’. 

‘You must have been pretty cheesed off with is,’ one man quipped. 

‘You know inflation is bad when you’re just paying for packaging,’ said a fourth.

Someone joked the cheese was ‘sliced so thin it’s transparent’ while another defended the staff member who put the packet on the shelf. 

‘Omg staff should never of put it out,’ one shopper said as another replied: ‘It’s in a box so they probably didn’t notice’. 

‘Oops, that’s a production fail!’ commented a third. 

Aldi Australia will provide a refund or a replacement to customers who are not happy with any grocery item or Special Buys deal they have bought either in store or online. 

The retailer also encourages shoppers to provide feedback to Aldi directly via the product form on its website.
