Mother’s Day usually sees thankful children handing their mums flowers and chocolates – but one supermarket has shocked shoppers by suggesting they hand her vodka instead.
A Sainsbury’s in Cambridge had a display promoting a ‘Mother’s Day Breakfast’ consisting of alcoholic beverages including Gin, Bailey’s wine and Champagne.
One customer took to Twitter to share a picture of the shelves and asked whether the offering was in keeping with the spirit of Mothering Sunday, which this year falls next weekend.

According to the Cambridge News, the shopper said: ‘Now then Sainsbury’s – are you suggesting us mothers need to drink at breakfast?’
The supermarket replied: ‘Whoops! That doesn’t seem right.’
The original poster responded: ‘It’s made a lot of people laugh – but could probably do with being changed.’
She is a local worker and said after seeing staff stock the shelves last week, she had been laughing about the display with colleagues.
