Some Christmas shoppers have raised a stink about a suburban shopping centre using live reindeer at a Christmas event, but locals have fought back.
Westfield Tuggerah, on the NSW Central Coast, brought in a couple of reindeer to add to the Christmas spirit during the week.
But the effort to add a little ‘Ho, ho, ho’ was met with a resounding ‘No, no, no’ from some radical vegans, saying it was a ‘shame’ and ‘disgusting’.
Another claimed to be able to read the reindeer’s minds, saying ‘Can’t people see these poor beauties are miserable?’
But angry locals fought back, with one saying, ‘I think it’s great to see the happy faces on the kids and really don’t see a problem.’

One anonymous commenter said they ‘just felt sick’ about the use of the live reindeer, but this prompted a strong comeback from a rival poster.
‘No, I don’t feel sick about it at all,’ they wrote. ‘I loved seeing the happiness on everyone’s faces as they realised they were “real” reindeer.’
The same commenter also said the animals had been well taken care of by their owners.
‘I met the owners of the reindeers a couple of weekends ago at Westfield and was really impressed with their ease and way with these gorgeous animals!’ they wrote.
‘It was very clear that they know their stuff as they were exceptionally caring and protective towards their animals.’
This led commenter to say that ‘It’s been a good discussion seeing everyone’s different point of views.
‘I have made the decision that I don’t like it but everyone has the right to their opinions.’
Another poster agreed with his, asking ‘why do shopping centres need his, using live animals is not cool,’ followed with a sad face emoji, while another said it was ‘gross’.

But the defenders of the use of the reindeer outnumbered those opposed to using them, with one writing that the creatures worked ‘two days for two hours’.
‘My son got to pat the front one,’ they said, but added. ‘I do have to say though even though the reindeer were very calm, I would have hated them to stand up run or get cranky.
‘They are big boys.’
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Westfield Tuggerah and the NSW branch of the RSPCA for comment.
