Sickening moment college player has helmet knocked off and left floored by terrifying hit in Miami vs Georgia Tech

In one of the most brutal collisions of the college football season thus far, Georgia Tech’s Trey Cooley had his helmet knocked off on a hit from Miami defensive lineman Ahmad Moten Sr.

Cooley gets handed the ball from Yellow Jackets quarterback Haynes King and takes the ball a few yards before running it Hurricanes defender Rueben Bain Jr., who grabs the running back’s face mask.

Spinning out of the grab was Cooley, with his helmet starting to come loose. Once he was done rotating, Moten made contact and crushed Cooley to the turf.

A flag was already thrown on Bain for a personal-foul face mask penalty. A second came flying in after the hit from Moten for targeting due to him leading his barbaric tackle with the crown of his helmet.

The targeting was eventually confirmed and Moten was ejected from the game.

At the point of contact, Cooley’s helmet was not completely off, with the impact of the 6-foot-3, 325-pound Moten making his head violently whiplash.

The Yellow Jackets scored on the drive where the hit occurred and Cooley was not seriously injured on the play.

Cooley also did immediately get to his feet and walk to the sideline after the hit.

The penalty cost Miami dearly, putting the No 4 team in the country down 12 points with 13 minutes left in the game.

However, the Hurricanes have been in peril a few times this season and always won. With two minutes left in the game, Georgia Tech holds a 5-point lead.

Heisman Trophy candidate and Miami quarterback Cam Ward fumbled the ball back to the Yellow Jackets with under two minutes left to nearly ensure the upset.
