ESPN Deportes’ reporter Sergio Dipp justified his first fidgety sideline assignment on ‘Monday Night Football’ after a clip of him from the Chargers-Broncos game went viral overnight on the internet.
Dipp took to his Twitter page just hours after the broadcast blunder debut, saying: ‘It’s been a couple of hours now, trying to digest what just happened to a 29-year-old Mexican guy like me,’ Dipp said in the video, while still suited-up from the game.
‘It’s 9/11, I’m in Denver, Colorado, and this is the NFL, ‘Monday Night Football’ game between the Broncos and the Chargers, the biggest stage possible,’ he added.

Dipp, who has worked for the network’s Spanish-speaking channel for four years, made his appearance on the series near the end of the first quarter, where he kicked off announcing: ‘here on the field, from up close, just watching … [Broncos] coach Vance Joseph.
‘From here … You watch him now on the screen. There’s diversity in his background that’s helping him a lot tonight,’ he said nervously.
‘And here he is, having the time of his life making his head-coaching debut,’ Dipp can be heard saying at the end of the viral clip.

‘I truly meant no disrespect, because all I wanted to do was to show some love to two historical head coaches,’ he continued

‘I was studying my elementary school September 11, 2001, in Calexico, Calif.,’ said Dipp, who was born in Mexicali, Mexico.
‘Growing up in the American environment as a minority, a minority like head coaches Vance Joseph and Anthony Lynn.
‘The biggest stage out there … (And) on the most heartfelt day in this great country made up by immigrants and on some people’s perspective, it all went wrong.
‘I truly meant no disrespect, because all I wanted to do was to show some love to two historical head coaches,’ he continued. ‘Hopefully I’ll have another chance and be sure I’ll make the most out of it.’
While the clip initially attracted a bit of criticism from viewers on the internet, many were charmed by Dipp’s courage and positive attitude.
‘Hang in there brother. Stay strong. Keep pushing. You will be fine,’ NFL Network host Steve Wyche wrote in the comments section on his Twitter page.
Another user wrote, ‘@espn gotta keep this dude on Monday Night Football for the rest of the year, right? Cool human being.’
