Simon Cowell SLAMMED for ‘exploiting’ contestants

He shot to international stardom after nabbing the nickname ‘Mr.Nasty’ on American Idol when it first debuted in 2002.

But Simon Cowell has now been blasted for his judging style by executive producer Trish Kinane – who will head up the rebooted series, which will feature Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie as the new judging line-up.

As well as Kinane claiming previous series of the Stateside singing competition was ‘fake’ and ‘manipulative’, it has also been reported that the music mogul has seen a £25million fall in profits after the last series of X Factor pulled in its lowest ratings with £4.3million.

American Idol debuted on Fox on June 11, 2002 and was a ratings juggernaut for Simon and his fellow judges Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson – as well as show host Ryan Seacrest.

The singing competition played up bad auditions during its early years with contestants becoming famous for their off-key renditions – including William Hung who took on Ricky Martin’s She Bangs.

However, Trish – who has been a part of American Idol since 2013 – is now adamant in her decision to not air the bad auditions and has slammed Cowell for the ‘exploitation.’

‘It doesn’t feel comfortable to put borderline unstable people up on stage and laugh at them,’ she revealed to The Hollywood Reporter.

‘I think that people once thought that the judges saw everyone, and now you know there’s a line of producers who screen before them… We want the humour, but we don’t want the exploitation,’ it was continued.

American Idol started waning in its popularity after a carousel of coaches and Fox announced its fifteenth season in 2016 would be its last with Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr as judges.

However, American Idol has launched the careers of bona fide stars including Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Katharine McPhee, Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Spark

The reboot of American Idol will premiere on March 11, 2018 on ABC and will air on Sunday and Monday nights for eight weeks, then narrow down to just Sunday when a new season of Dancing With the Stars premieres.

And there seems to be more bad news for Simon who has suffered a £25million fall in profits as this three firms.

Syco Holdings made a loss of £3.145million in 2017, compared to £1.461million profit in 2016.

Syco Entertainment – which is home to One Direction, Susan Boyle and Little Mix – made £197,000 in 2017 – which has seen a £19million fall from 2016.

Music and TV company Simco Limited, which looks after annual reality competition Britain’s Got talent, has seen a drop in over £1million – falling from £18million to £17million.

And with Cowell’s show X Factor drawing in the lowest ratings so far, he has reportedly been warned by TV bosses that he has two years to turn things around otherwise it will be given the axe.

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Simon for further comment.

Despite the allegations, Simon seems intent on enjoying some downtime as he has been seen frolicking in the ocean in Barbados with his girlfriend Lauren Silverman and three-year-old son, Eric.

Lauren went public with Simon in 2013, after her relationship with his then-best friend Andrew Silverman ended.

The news was sealed with a kiss when pictures of the duo smooching on a yacht emerged.

During the Barbados break, Simon has been displaying a visibly slimmer frame after vowing to overhaul his lifestyle and go on a health kick.

He feared he had ‘broken his neck’ after he fell down the stairs at his London home at the end of October due to low blood pressure.

The Britain’s Got Talent star has ditched vodka and he has made a conscious effort to cut down his cigarettes after he vowed to take good care of himself.
