A sex offender who blamed his victim because he claimed she approached him has been jailed for three years and nine months.

Simon Grant Taylor, 38, was sentenced at Dunedin’s District Court in New Zealand, after he was convicted of sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection of a 13-year-old girl in May.

Taylor who had previously spent time behind bars for sex offences said he was ‘grateful’ to receive the sexual act from the young girl, claiming she told him she was at least 15 years old.

A police summary stated that the 13-year-old had stumbled up to the man at a bus station while she was heavily intoxicated.

‘The victim was grossly intoxicated, running and screaming up and down the street without shoes on,’ court documents said, The New Zealand Herald reported.

The young girl sat next to the man before she started to touch his crotch over his pants.

The pair then began hugging and kissing before the girl lead him to the back of a building, the court heard.

She performed a sex act on Taylor before the pair returned to the station.

The girl had told the 38-year-old that she needed to hide from police as the pair then boarded a bus to Taylor’s home.

His father turned them away and the girl rode back into town alone before speaking to police that night.

When questioned over the incident, Taylor responded: ‘I should’ve pushed the bitch away.’

In August, 2014, Taylor had grabbed the buttocks of an 18-year-old woman in a store, landing him in jail for six months for indecent assault.

In 2009 he was sentenced to five years behind bars for sex offences against a child.

Taylor was found to be of high risk at re-offending after a psychological report, admitting he struggled not to touch girls and women he was attracted to.

Counsel Anne Stevens QC said the 38-year-old spent a lot of time watching pornography.

‘He spends all his days, it appears, on the internet. A lot of it looking at pornography,’ she said.

Judge Crosbie sentenced Taylor to three years and nine months jail to be served without the chance of parole.
