Singapore summit LIVE: Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un sign document, shake hands and make history 

Donald Trump praised his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong-un following his historic summit meeting in Singapore today. 

The US president promised to halt joint military exercises with South Korea citing the huge costs, while Kim said he would destroy a missile engine testing site. 

Speaking following the meeting, Trump told reporters, the process of denuclearisation will start ‘very, very quickly’.  

 Trump said Kim accepted an invitation to visit the White House. He suggested a second summit with the dictator might be necessary, although he hailed the success of his negotiations. 

He said: ‘We’re much further along than I would have thought.’
