Singer, 23, shares moment he joked around with Queen Mathilde of Belgium during lunch event in Paris

A young singer has shared the moment he appeared to share a joke with Queen Mathilde during her trip to Paris.

She and King Philippe – who are currently on a state visit to France, following an invitation to celebrate Franco-Belgian cultural ties and the shared views on European issues – met Pierre de Maere during a lunch with Belgian stars in the country.

The 23-year-old, originally from Brussels, boasts more than one million monthly listeners on Spotify and a devoted Gen Z following.

While the singer was delighted to meet the royal duo at a star-studded lunch, he said that Philippe ‘didn’t know’ about his work, according to SoirMag.

Mathilde told him that her children – Princess Elisabeth, 22, Prince Gabriel, 21, Prince Emmanuel, 19, and Princess Eleonore, 16 – listen to his music and that it’s for kids; the singer, seemingly jokingly, replied: ‘No, it mainly for mothers’.

When translated into English, the singer told a local journalist: ‘In my head, a King listens to classics. And indeed, he didn’t know what I was doing.’

He added that the lunch was ‘nice’ and that he is proud of his Belgian heritage, adding: ‘I am very happy to wear the colors of my country, wherever I go’.

It comes after Queen Mathilde put on a dazzling display as she arrived at the Elysee Palace for a state dinner on Monday evening.

Alongside King Phillippe Mathilde greeted French President Emmanuel Macron and first Lady Brigitte before entering the glitzy Parisian event.

The mother-of-four looked elegant in a high-neck velour floor-length gown in a deep blue shade.

She styled her blonde tresses in a sophisticated updo and opted for a glamorous makeup look for the occasion, complete with a touch of pink lipstick.

King Philippe looked equally tasteful in a dapper black suit, matching tie, and crisp white shirt.

The Belgian royals greeted Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron outside the event before posing on the steps for photographs.

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and his wife Annik Penders also attended the state dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife in honour of Belgium’s King Philippe and Queen Mathilde.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin and his wife, Rose-Marie Devillers were also on the state dinner guest list.

Once inside the presidential Elysee Palace, Macron addressed attendees with a speech.

It comes after Mathilde stepped out in a sensational cherry red ensemble as she met with Emmanuel and Brigitte on Monday morning.

She was joined by her husband Philippe in Paris, where the two greeted the French President before attending a ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe.

The royals shook hands with the French politician, posing for pictures alongside him and his wife outside the French landmark in the capital.

Mathilde stunned in an rich red suit as she arrived in Paris to attend the ceremony. The royal came kitted in full length red regalia to keep her warm on the fresh morning.

The mother-of-four wore a long sleeved red blouse with buttons running from the collar to just below the waist.

The red blouse was pulled in at the waist and worn elegantly with a long skirt in the same colour, shielding the royals’ legs from the October chill.

She completed the look with a pair of suede gloves in the same autumnal shade, and a pair of chic cherry red stilettos.

The Belgium royal finished the ensemble with an stylish red bag and angled hat.

Mathilde wore her blonde dresses in an a chic up do, tucking her corn yellow hair behind her sloping red hat.

She wore simple makeup and a layer of red lipstick, the finish the cherry look.

King Philippe wore a sophisticated navy suit alongside his glamorous wife, dressing for the autumn chill with a long black button up coat.

Also joining the ceremony on Monday was French President Emmanuel Macron’s wife, Brigitte, who stunned in a deep purple coat and navy frock.

Brigitte, who is a former French teacher, looked smart and stylish in an ankle length collared coat and her bright blonde hair worn fashionably blown out.

Meanwhile, the French president dressed typically smart in an all navy suit, similarly opting for a long black coat to shield from the cold.

Protecting her eyes from the early morning weekend sunshine, Mathilde sported a pair of stylish sunglasses.

She wore her blow dried blonde tresses in soft waves and donned a typically subtle makeup look, with natural glowing skin and pink lips.

Meanwhile, Delphine wore an outfit relatively tame compared to her usual adventurous ensembles.

On this occasion, the Belgium royal wore a smart pink suit with a love heart embossed on the back, and a plain high neck t-shirt underneath.

She accessorised with a chunky red bracelet, stylish sunglasses and a necklace which featured a gold love heart with the word ‘love’ written in the middle of it.

She appeared makeup free and wore her golden locks down, combed neatly out of her face.
