Singer Amy Shark reveals the real reason she always wears her hair in a half-up bun

Singer Amy Shark reveals the real reason she always wears her hair in a half-up bun – especially while performing on stage

Amy Shark is known for her music – and her iconic hairdo.

The Australian singer has revealed why she wears her hair in a half-up, down-down hairstyle with a bun on top.

The 37-year-old tells Nine Honey that the reason is simple – it’s mostly a matter of convenience.

‘Because having a uniform makes my life easier and it’s easy to do while on the road,’ she told the publication.

It comes after Amy revealed the sad reason why she believed she needed to hide her marriage during her rise to fame.

She tied the knot with her husband Shane Billings in 2016, and signed her first record deal two years later.

At the time, Amy believed she had to keep her relationship secret because record labels commonly like female pop stars to appear ‘single and desirable’ – and even Shane encouraged her.

‘At the start, Shane was like, ‘Take your ring off!” she told The Herald Sun.

‘We were petrified because we had finally got a record deal and things were happening, and at the time, there was still this old-school thought that things might work better if I was mysterious.’

While the singer doesn’t post many photos of her husband on social media, she no longer hides him.

‘And now … people can think whatever they want to think,’ she continued. ‘People get excited to see him; if they spot him side of stage at a show there are more photos of him than me!’

Amy and her husband are are also now work colleagues after she made him her in-house manager three years ago.

The couple first met when they worked together in 2007 for the Gold Coast Titans – where she was a video editor and he was a financial manager.

While having a successful music career is a dream come true for Amy, she previously admitted that she often ‘deeply regrets’ becoming an Australian household name.

Speaking to the Courier Mail last year, she said: ”I love it [fame] and it’s great but then it can be really ugly as well.

‘And people change and everything feels different and weird, and some days it’s just like, ‘argh, I just want to go back; I want to go back to not having the name attached to me.’

‘I sway back and forth all the time between taking advantage of Amy Shark and deeply regretting it.’
