A picturesque swimming spot in the Northern Territory is closed until further notice after a freshwater crocodile was spotted in the area.
The two-metre beast was seen in the Florence Falls waterhole of Litchfield National Park on Sunday and NT Parks and Wildlife raised the alarm on Monday. Ironically, it was also World Croc Day.
The freshie was identified and confirmed by spotlight overnight, sparking a rush from park rangers to try remove it.
NT Parks and Wildlife have placed warning signs in the area and the pools will reopen ‘as soon as it’s practical’.
Aussies are encouraged to be ‘croc wise’ before entering any swimming area in the Top End.

Ironically the announcement was made by NT Parks and Wildlife on World Croc Day on June 17
An NT Parks and Wildlife spokesperson said visitors will not be able to swim in the waterhole until the crocodile has been removed.
‘Parks and Wildlife have placed warning signs in the immediate area,’ the spokesperson told NT News.
‘We thank you for your patience while the no swimming prohibition remains in place for your safety.’

Saltwater crocodiles tend to be more aggressive and larger than freshwater crocodiles, but nonetheless swimming is not allowed after any crocodile sighting.
