Sir David Tang’s son ties the knot in front of millionaires and society beauties in Italy

The son of Hong Kong business tycoon Sir David Tang married in a lavish ceremony in Tuscany, Italy, over the weekend.

Art consultant Ed Tang, 28, who splits his time between London, New York and Zurich, married Sotheby’s auctioneer John Auerbach, from New York, in one of the most anticipated high society weddings of the summer.

The celebrations were attended by Viscountess Emma Weymouth, Tatler’s contributing editor Olivia Buckingham, and a slew of Hong Kong millionaires, actresses and socialites.

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, along with Ed’s pal Kate Moss, were rumoured to have been on the guest list, though they were not pictured at the extravaganza.

Sarah was a close friend of the late Sir David Tang, who died in 2017 after founding luxury Hong Kong fashion house Shanghai Tang in 1994.

And on Sunday, pictures of the sumptuous celebrations, held at a grand manor in the Tuscan countryside, emerged, boasting gospel singers, an al fresco three-course spread, drag acts, a grand fireworks display and a 2am run to Siena, for post-party pizza.

Emma Weymouth was pictured wearing a Fiorucci dress emblazoned with angels, inspired by Italian art, which she teamed with a Chanel clutch and nude Louboutin heels.

She was seen congratulating  Ed and John as they exited the grand manor into the immaculately groomed gardens, dressed in navy suits and trainers.

The couple, who were greeted by gospel singers, then sat down for their al fresco meal, surrounded by floating Chinese lanterns and a stunning table display.

The celebrations appeared to go on late into the night, with videos from the guests’ Instagram stories showing an opulent fireworks display and lively music.

Meanwhile entertainment included cabaret acts and an evening of candle-lit dancing, before guests took a trip into the centre of town for a 2 am pizza fix.

Guests including the groom’s sister Victoria Tang, and blogger Alison Chan El Azar were pictured exploring the town in their designer gowns as they enjoyed a late night slice of pizza.

Although Ed did not share any pictures of the celebrations, the art consultant did post a glimpse at the four poster bed in the stunning historic manor, complete with a cut-out of two dogs, racking up hundreds of congratulations messages.

The lavish celebrations appear to have been far from small, despite Ed previously telling the Daily Mail: ‘It’s just going to be a small, intimate celebration that we hope to keep low-key’.

Sir David — whose franchise for Cuban cigars meant that every one sold in Asia and Canada gave him a cut — ran the fashionable China Tang restaurant until his death in 2017 and was one of London’s greatest hosts.

He was so committed to the good life that, when he was gravely ill and told he had ‘just a month or two to last’, he invited friends to a big bash at The Dorchester.

He explained: ‘I thought the best way to go would be to give a party where we can see each other at least one more time, rather than at a memorial service where I shall be dead as a dodo.’ Unfortunately, he died a few days before the party date and the party was cancelled by his widow.
