Sir Kenneth Olisa has revealed that King Charles’ pace of royal engagements is ‘100 times faster’ than the late Queen’s.
Sir Ken, who is the Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, opened up about the King’s coronation and his commitment to diversity on today’s Lorraine.
He revealed the monarch has a very reactive way of meeting members of the public and of different communities, compared to his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
He joked that the late Queen was able to pace her engagements ‘more gracefully’ than her son.
And the London civil servant added that he does not know how King Charles can keep such a busy pace, joking that he couldn’t keep up with him.
‘The pace is 100 times faster. That Earthquake in Turkey and Syria happened and he went out and met some Turkish refugees, he was with some Darfur refugees just the other day,’ Sir Kenneth said. ‘It goes on and on and on.’
He said the King is determined to make time for all the ‘people living in our country, who’ve decided this is the place in the world to be, and sharing of values.’
‘Her Majesty’s was a more graceful pace,’ he said, in reference to how the late Queen spaced out her engagements.
‘And I have to say, I don’t know how he keeps this up,’ Sir Ken, who represents the monarch in London, added.
‘I don’t do anything quite as much as he does and I’m completely exhausted most of the time,’ he joked.
Sir Kenneth also talked of the important role the Royal Family has played in engaging with different communities around the country.
‘This is what the Royal Family does so importantly,’ he said.
‘They sprinkle pixie dust as they travel around, meeting people, thanking them, congratulating them for contributing to society, contributing to communities.

‘That’s what they do day in and day out. And anyone who has met a member of the royal family remembers almost everything that happened
‘It’s a really important part of reminding ourselves of our national values. It’s genuine as opposed to patting people on the back,’ he added.
‘He’s going to be King for everybody, we’ll see that in the Abbey,’ Sir Kenneth added.
The monarch’s London representative also talked about Charles’s plans to have a slimmed down Coronation.
‘The whole idea of a trimmed down coronation is the whole idea of the lords and the ladies have been reduced in numbers and […] normal people are filling those seats,’ he said.
Speaking on Lorraine, Sir Kenneth ,left, joked that he doesn’t know how the King manages to work at the pace he does
Sir Kenneth, who will be welcoming heads of state for the ceremony, took a moment to remember the late Queen’s State Funeral, which took place at Westminster Abbey on September 19.
‘Heads of State from all over the world came to pay their respects and tribute to the Queen and the things she represented globally,’ he said.
‘So the energy in the Abbey from that all occasion is still there. Now we got the positive side of it, it’s no longer mourning a death but rather us celebrating, essentially, the birth of a new king.
‘We got the same people coming, saying “there is something very special about this country and we want to be part if that moment”,’ he added.
