Sir Tom Jones, 79, admits he eyes up women in their thirties but confesses ‘it’s mostly the grandmothers who fancy me’

He may turn 80 next June but Sir Tom Jones has admitted that he still eyes up women 50 years younger than him.

The singer, whose wife Linda died in 2016, confessed that when he sees them he thinks of himself as their age.

Sir Tom, whose hits include It’s Not Unusual and Delilah, said being nearly 80 doesn’t enter his head.

Asked if he still fancies 30-year-old women, the coach on ITV’s The Voice said: ‘Yeah, I do. You can’t see yourself when you are looking at somebody else.

‘I can’t believe it when they say 80-years-old because when you are young and you think 80, it sounds old.’

But he said the feeling tends not to be reciprocated, and that it’s only much older women who are attracted to him.

‘It’s mostly the grandmothers who fancy me,’ he told the Sunday People. ‘Some have my name written across their chest.’

In September this year it was reported that the Welshman was in talks to have his life turned into a movie.

‘They’re talking about doing a film about my life and they’re trying to find out who would play me,’ Sir Tom told the Daily Mail’s Sebastian Shakespeare at the GQ Men of the Year Awards, at Tate Modern.

‘I hope they find a Welsh actor to play me and not a singer. They should leave the singing to me — that’s all I ask,’ added the star.

The producers will have no shortage of colourful material. A coal miner’s son from Pontypridd, Sir Tom sang his way to global fame and became friends with Elvis along the way.

Although married to the same woman, Linda, for 59 years until her death in 2016, Sir Tom has said he enjoyed flings with up to 250 groupies a year at the height of his fame.
