The Six Nations unions want to revamp the failed ‘Nations Championship’ proposal, aligning the north and south’s rugby calendars, from 2024.
The idea – to combine the Six Nations and southern hemisphere Rugby Championship competitions culminating in a final – was binned in 2019.
But Ben Morel, chief executive of the Six Nations, wants it back as discussions continue around making the November and July Test windows more meaningful and marketable.

‘This would be a great further improvement,’ he said. ‘We’re definitely heavily involved in those discussions.
‘The Six Nations is the top of the pyramid as an annual rugby event and our job is to make it bigger and bigger over time. We really see this as a perfect complement.’
