Six things you missed from the Champions League final including Ronaldo’s stare

Cristiano Ronaldo gives Mohamed Salah evil stare while Zinedine Zidane left stunned by Gareth Bale strike… six things you may have missed from the Champions League final

It was not to be Liverpool’s night as a combination of bad luck, goalkeeping howlers and magic from Gareth Bale saw Real Madrid win a third straight Champions League title.

But while there was plenty of drama on the field there was a fair amount going off it, from as near as the touchline to as far away as Monte Carlo.

Here Sportsmail looks at the six things you missed from the Champions League final.

Ronaldo gives Salah evil stare before game

If it was not obvious who Cristiano Ronaldo thought the enemy was in the build up to the final, it soon became clear in the tunnel before the teams took to the field.

The Madrid star cast a viscous glare towards Mohamed Salah. Although it was brief enough for the Liverpool forward not to notice, later events perhaps suggested that Madrid knew the key to stopping Liverpool was stopping the Egyptian.

Bolt revels in Liverpool defeat

The Champions League final was big enough to attract stars from other sports, with Manchester United fan Usain Bolt showing his delight at the defeat of the Red Devils’ most bitter rivals.

Meanwhile Spanish F1 star Fernando Alonso took time out from his Monaco Grand Prix weekend to celebrate his side winning a 13th Champions League title.

Ronaldo denied chance to score by pitch invader

Madrid may have triumphed again but on a personal level it was not a good night for Cristiano Ronaldo. Madrid’s star man played only a bit-role in the win and hardly had a chance as he was forced to watch supersub Gareth Bale claim all the glory.

On a rare occasion that Ronaldo did manage to attack the Liverpool defence, play was halted after a pitch invader had managed to run onto the field just yards from the Portuguese star – much to his frustration.

Keep your enemies closer

With two big howlers costing his side in the final, Loris Karius would have wanted the world to swallow him up following a horror show between the posts in Kiev.

But he was not going to be consoled by team-mates who all ignored the keeper in the minutes after the full-time whistle blew. Instead it was Madrid stars including Gareth Bale who offered the Liverpool keeper a shoulder to cry on.

Zidane left stunned by Bale wonder strike

The 2002 Champions League final is proof enough that Zinedine Zidane knows what a wonder goal in the Champions League final looks like.

But even the Madrid boss was left scratching his head and gesturing randomly with stunned excitement following Bale’s incredible overhead kick.

Fan falls over celebrating Benzema being offside

It was amusing enough watching the footage of Jurgen Klopp celebrating after seeing Karim Benzema’s first half strike correctly ruled out for offside.

But watch the footage again and you will a Liverpool supporter in the background getting even more carried away as he tries to vault a hoarding, only to fall flat on his face.
