Skateboarding event at the Paris Olympics is POSTPONED due to ‘adverse weather conditions’… after heavy rain marred the opening ceremony

The men’s skateboarding street competition has been postponed because of heavy rain at the Paris Olympics.

It comes after the opening ceremony along the River Seine was affected by the adverse weather conditions which threatened to dampen the show.

Flood warnings had even been raised by the French meteorological office for some areas around the city. 

While most events on Saturday are expected to go ahead without a hitch, organisers have confirmed that the street skating event pencilled in for today, has now been postponed. 

World Skate confirming the news posted in a statement: ‘Due to adverse overnight weather conditions and following a meeting this morning with all relevant organisers, the decision has been taken to postpone Men’s Street Skateboarding at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games until Monday, July 29. 

Competitors will now have to wait until Monday for action to get underway in the event

It comes after heavy rain marred the opening ceremony of the Games on Friday night

The rescheduled event will see the preliminary rounds start at 11am, with the top eight competitors from the from the four heats making it into the final. 

It is hoped that the women’s event which is in the diary for tomorrow won’t have the same issues. 

Early morning action that has got underway includes the dressage, with hockey, gymnastics, diving and swimming also taking place this morning.  

The eventing dressage competition has not been affected by rain and has gone ahead at Versailles, north of Paris, while the indoor highlights on Saturday of gymnastics, diving and swimming will not be affected by the adverse weather.
