The water and air search was suspended at 4.40pm NZT, while a search of the shoreline will continue until 6.30pm.

New Zealand Police said they will ‘make an assessment on the situation’ at 9am on Thursday.

The company which carried out the jump – NZONE – suspended operations following the incident.

An NZONE spokesman told Stuff a ‘highly-experienced instructor, who had completed thousands of jumps’ was finishing a tandem jump with a customer and landed in the water.
