- A Copperhead had to be unwound from around a household cat’s neck
- Strangely enough, neither animals were harmed in the odd circumstance
- The snake catcher had to establish trust with the cat before removing the snake
A Tasmanian pet owner received one heck of a fright when their cat came home with a very bizarre souvenir wrapped around its neck – a live snake.
Professional snake catcher Thomas Leishman was called out to a home in Richmond, north of Hobart, to unwind the coiled copperhead snake from the cat’s collar area.
Strangely enough, neither animals were harmed in the odd circumstance, but Mr Leishman said getting the cat to cooperate in the removal of its accessory was the main challenge.
In a post shared to Snake Catcher Victoria Australia, the conundrum was described as ‘not something you see every day’.
A Tasmanian pet owner received one heck of a fright when their cat came home with a very bizarre souvenir wrapped around its neck – a live snake
‘Tassie snake catcher Thomas Leishman was called out to this copperhead that had been picked up by a cat and become wrapped around its neck and collar,’ the post read.
‘Both were separated and neither were harmed. Cool huh.’
The post came with a warning to never attempt to free a snake from a pet’s neck without a professional.
‘If your cat brings a snake home, as they often do, ring your local snake catcher to come and get it.’
Strangely enough, neither animals were harmed in the odd circumstance, but Mr Leishman said getting the cat to cooperate in the removal of its accessory was the main challenge
‘Do not try to disentangle them yourself, you will need an expert.’
Mr Leishman said it was only after settling the cat that he could wrangle the snake from it’s head.
‘I needed to earn the cat’s trust but once he settled down I got behind the snake’s head and worked it off the cat’s collar,’ he told Yahoo7.
