Snapchat die-hards everywhere can now rejoice because the company has started selling merchandise inside the app.
Dubbed the Snap Store, users can buy a t-shirt with their favorite dog filter plastered on the front or a plushie of the firm’s ‘augmented reality superstar,’ also known as the dancing hot dog, among other items.
The store rolled out on Thursday and Snapchat says more products are expected to drop on February 8 at 10:00 A.M. (PT).
Anyone can browse the Snap Store, but only U.S. users can purchase the products for now.
Snapchat introduced its in-app merchandise experience, called the ‘Snap Store,’ on Thursday. The store has branded sweatshirts, hats and plushies available for purchase
Just like Snapchat’s notoriously disappearing messages, the firm said the items may disappear (or perhaps, sell out) soon, so users should act fast.
‘Items may disappear…so if you like what you see, swipe up to buy it,’ the app says.
To access the Snap Store, open the Snapchat app and swipe to the left until you land on the Discover page, where the Snap Store should be located at the top.
The Snap Store then walks users through the available products and prompts them to purchase an item by swiping up.
Users can also get to the Snap Store by scanning a QR code on Snapchat’s website.
The app also prompts users to subscribe to the Snap Store to receive any updates.
Aside from the dog filter tee and dancing hot dog stuffed animal (which has a removable bun and bendy arms), Snap has several other products in the shop.
There’s a ‘winkface’ sweatshirt that’s modeled after Snapchat’s logo, which is cutely named ‘Ghostface Chillah’ and CEO Evan Spiegel actually drew himself.
The store also has a ‘Snapstreak’ hat, which refers to the fire emoji displayed when two users have Snapped each other within 24 hours for the last three days.
Another item makes a nostalgic throwback to Snapchat’s ‘best friends’ feature, which was at one time rumored to be making a comeback this year.
The Snap Store was built by the company’s product designer, Trevor Denton, who previously helped create Starbucks’ coffee ordering app, according to TechCrunch.
This signals that Snapchat may have bigger ambitions for the in-app shopping platform, perhaps rolling it out to include items from other brands.
Many have expected Snapchat to include more shopping features in the app for a few years now.
Snapchat already has some experience in selling branded merch.
Until now, users could only buy Snap-branded merchandise from Amazon. The Snap Store now lets them browse Snapchat accessories from the Discover page. Pictured is the ‘Bring Back Best Friends’ sweatshirt and a t-shirt featuring Snapchat’s famous dog filter
For about two years, Snapchat has been selling limited quantities of branded accessories and novelties.
The company has been selling ghost plushies and backpacks, as well as a ghost-shaped ice tray and playing cards.
Snap also sold a dancing hot dog costume for a while.
Until now, the company sold its merch via Amazon, but for the first time, those items are available for purchase inside the app, via the Snap Store.
