Budding artists have a new way to express themselves, thanks to a new tool coming to Snapchat.

The social app has today launched Lens Studio, which lets you create your own animations for Snapchat’s  augmented reality lenses.

From professional designers to students, the software helps you bring to life anything your imagination can conjure.

HOW TO GET STARTED

To get started, visit the Lens Studio website, then download the Lens Studio developer tool.

The Lens Studio website includes tutorials, templates, and tips for Lens creation for the Snapchat.

During the creation process, creators can generate temporary Snapcodes to test their in-progress Lenses.

Once complete, a new, unique Snapcode or deep link will be generated for Snapchatters to discover and scan to unlock the Lens.

Snapcodes will unlock the Lens for 24 hours at a time, and be visable for one year.

Community Lenses can also be shared with friends in Snapchat.

Tap the new ‘i’ button above the Lens in the carousel. Recipients can then ‘swipe up’ to unlock the Lens themselves.

A ‘My Lenses’ management portal in Lens Studio will help you organise your Lenses, associated Snapcodes, and monitor likes, views, uses and more.

Lens Studio is a free desktop app for Mac and Windows with guides and tools to help mould your augmented reality creations.

Designers can make their own ‘World Lenses’ – objects that live ‘in the world’ through the rear-facing Snapchat camera.

These can range from simple 2D drawings to complex 3D moving scenes.

Advertisers will also be able to work with agencies to create both facial and World Lenses.

Once your Lens is complete, you’ll be given a special Snapcode that you can share anywhere, which anyone can scan to unlock your Lens.

In a blog post about the launch, a spokesman for Snap said: ‘With the launch of Lens Studio, we’re excited to make Lenses more accessible to creators, and experiences within Snapchat more personal and diverse.

‘Whether you’re just starting to dabble in 2D animation or are a professional artist interested in creating your own experiences, Lens Studio makes sharing your creation with the world fast and fun.

‘We’ve seen how much more fun Geofilters have become since first inviting the community to create their own three years ago —and can’t wait to see what you build with Lens Studio.’

Every day, roughly 70 million Snapchatters use Lenses, augmented reality experiences that live inside the Snapchat camera.
