Snapping turtle bites survivalist in Thunder Bay, Canada

  • The reptile pounced at a survivalist, drawing blood after being teased with food
  • It was spotted with other turtles who were laying their eggs in Ontario, Canada
  • The clip emerged after this year’s hunting ban row dominated in the province

This is what happened when a survivalist’s skin was punctured by a turtle as he appears to tease it with a blade of grass.

After waving it in front of the snapping turtle’s face in Thunder Bay, the reptile thrusts forward, bypassing the blade and drawing blood from his hand instead.

The shocked survivalist responds: ‘Flippin’ mother, he got me!’

As he tells the snapper ‘I’m not bugging you anymore’, the turtle retreats wearing an almost satisfied expression.

The camera man uploaded the clip under the name survivalclubcanada on July 24 after he spotted snapping turtles laying eggs while driving.

Still smarting, he tells the camera: ‘I guess I kind of deserved that one. Don’t bug a snapping turtle.’

Realising he should have ‘left nature to its business’ he told the turtle ‘see ya later buddy’.

The turtles were at the centre of a row between hunters and their opponents in Ontario, Canada, where biologists called for a hunting ban in February on the grounds that the species is ‘at risk’.
