Snoop Dogg reveals his unlikely friendship with ‘brother’ David Beckham dates back 30 YEARS

One could argue its a friendship with little common ground, but Snoop Dogg says his unlikely bond with ‘born winner’ David Beckham dates back more than thirty years.

The weed-smoking veteran rapper was supported by former Manchester United footballer Beckham as his I Wanna Thank Me tour ticked off its latest UK show at London’s O2 Arena on Tuesday evening.

But Snoop, 51, says their ‘natural attraction’ dates back to his own notorious Death Row Records heyday and 47-year old Beckham’s career beginnings as one of England’s brightest footballing prospects.

Speaking to MailOnline at the Berlin launch of his new collaboration with online crypto casino Roobet, he said: ‘We’ve been friends since the early nineties. We love the same things. We love to win. We love to work hard. We’re family men, and people love us.

‘We’re naturally attracted to each other. We built the friendship years and years ago. He created a family, and I created a family.’

So close is their friendship, Snoop even welcomed Beckham as a guest on his former reality show Father Hood in 2007, during which the unlikely pair unsuccessfully attempted to introduce soccer to the rapper’s four children.

And he admits the episode was a reminder of how far reaching their friendship is after the former sportsman – himself a father-of-four – included sons Romeo, 20, and Cruz, 18, in their backstage reunion on Tuesday.

‘When I had my show Fatherhood on the E! Channel he came on and did some things with my kids about his football,’ he said. ‘His babies were real little babies then, but when he come to see me the other day he brings his babies with him and they’re grown now.

‘We’ve just grown as a friendship, as a brotherhood and as a family.’

The meeting also gave Snoop an opportunity to offer Cruz, an aspiring singer and musician who turned 18 on February 20, a belated birthday gift – and some equally valuable tips on how to succeed in the music industry.

‘I gave him some real good advice,’ he explained. ‘Then I gave him a Death Row chain and told him to own it.’

The rapper is a parent to Cordé, 28, Cordell, 26, and Cori, 23, from his 25-year marriage to Shante Broadus, and Julian, 25 from a former relationship with Laurie Holmond.

But becoming a grandfather proved to be the defining point in his life and the start of a less reckless chapter after his eldest child welcomed son Zion with girlfriend Jessica Kyzer in 2015.

‘Being a grandfather has changed me in multiple ways,’ he said. ‘The main way is being concerned with how I live, how I move, the kind of people I’m associated with, because I want to see my grandkids grow old.

‘The only way I can do that is to take precautionary steps as far as how I move, who I hang out with, where I go out, my intake, what am I intaking.

‘Am I doing extra-curricular or am I just doing what I’m supposed to be doing?’

While the arrival of his first grandchild provided balance, it has done little to edit his rapidly developing portfolio of side-projects.

The rapper’s diverse approach to endorsement has seen him team up with Martha Stewart for a cookbook range range of cookbooks shows, while animated cartoons, reality shows, personalised marijuana strains and the esports Gangsta Gaming League have all enriched his coffers while endearing him to a wider public.

More recently he stunned British TV viewers by featuring in an advertising campaign for food delivery service Just Eats. His catchy jingle proved so popular that it even featured during his O2 setlist.

The rapper is now focused on a new collaboration with online crypto casino Roobet and has celebrated the launch of their first offering, Hot Box – Snoop’s version of Roobet fan-favourite game Crash.

‘We had a mutual interest in giving back, to help certain people who couldn’t touch as much money as us have an opportunity to,’ he said of his involvement with the brand. ‘They’re willing to give back to charities and deal with certain things.

‘That attracted me more than working for an organisation to make money for myself. It overwhelmed me when they presented that first and foremost.’

He added: ‘I’m the missing piece of the puzzle. The things they do with me will be cutting edge. They’ve already been doing a great job without me, so imagine them with me.

‘They don’t have anyone like me. It’s a unique relationship – I don’t have any competitors in my lane.’

While Crash urges players to cash out before a rocket crashes down to earth, Hot Box dares players to ‘out-smoke’ Snoop Dogg himself – and urges players to cash out before they inevitably fail.

‘It’s up close and personal,’ he said. ‘It has music, it has my voice in there. I’ll be giving you a piece of me without licensing a piece of me out of there. But actually being a part of the development of the game, from start to finish.’
