Soccer legend Archie Thompson breaks down as he is eliminated from Celebrity MasterChef Australia

Australia soccer legend Archie Thompson was eliminated during Sunday night’s episode of Celebrity MasterChef Australia.

The former professional footballer, 43, failed to impress the judges during a service challenge.

After announcing the other celebrities were safe, judge Melissa Leong revealed Archie would be going home.

‘The brief was to feature a key ingredient in your dish but unfortunately there was one dish today where that ingredient went missing,’ she said.

‘And that dish belonged to Archie.’

An emotional Archie then said: ‘I was happy to ride this wave. I’ve been emotional with my football career and this is just another journey that I’ve experienced that has been amazing.’

During the challenge, the celebrities had to feature a native ingredient that wasn’t revealed until right before they started cooking.

Archie had to create a dish using wattleseed.

‘I had just never even heard of that before,’ he told 10 play, following his elimination.

‘I wouldn’t even know what that would taste good in.’

He continued: ‘It was nothing out of the norm for me when I saw wattleseed, I was like well, I’m going to feel stressed.’
