Sofia Vergara, 51, apologizes for wearing tennis shoes on talk show after recent knee surgery prevents her from wearing high heels

Sofia Vergara wore tennis shoes while appearing as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday after recently undergoing knee surgery.

‘I’m sorry I come to your show in tennis shoes,’ Sofia, 51, apologized to Jimmy, 56.

‘You know what? It’s okay. I really don’t mind,’ Jimmy said.

‘I do, I don’t even want to look down,’ Sofia quipped.

She noted that tennis shoes are ‘only for sports activities and ‘touristy activities’.

‘I don’t even know how to say, …I had a very big operation, eight-hour operation,’ Sofia explained.

‘Eight hours, really?,’ asked Jimmy, who recently revealed his son Bily, seven, had another open-heart operation.

‘Yeah, it was big, big. I mean, I shouldn’t be here. But I wouldn’t miss being with you,’ Sofia said.

Jimmy thanked for her coming and asked if it hurt.

‘I’m okay. I’ve been better. I mean, I am still, you know, working and doing things. But I can’t wear high heels, and that’s like …depressing for me,’ Sofia said.

‘You don’t like a little break from the high heels, huh? You want the high heels most of the time?,’ Jimmy asked.

‘Yeah, I’m Latin. I guess that’s why I have big knee problems,’ Sofia said.

Sofia also shared the mundane reason she needed knee surgery.

‘I want to say something sexy like I was in a fight, or I do my own stunts. But it’s just, I think, wear and tear and old age, I don’t know. Just life,’ she said.

Sofia said her son Manolo and a friend from Colombia helped take care of her.

Jimmy pointed out that Sofia is on the latest cover of The Hollywood Reporter titled ‘Drama Queens’ along with Nicole Kidman, Jodie Foster, Brie Larson and Naomi Watts.

‘You know what, that was actually less than two weeks after the operation. And my team is like, “You know what we’re going to cancel because we don’t think you’re in good shape, you’re not looking good”,’ Sofia said.

‘They said that?,’ Jimmy asked.

‘Yeah, I couldn’t even move. I had to use a walker to walk at that point. It was like maybe 10 days after the operation. And I’m like, “I’m not missing that cover of the magazine with Jennifer Aniston, with Nicole Kidman, with Jodie Foster.” Even if I have gangrene,’ Sofia said.

Sofia said she was had a ‘face of discomfort’ and her leg was resting on a high cushion.

She also joked that they told her to come in ‘business casual’ and noticed her attire was a lot sexier than the others.

‘To me, that’s business. Look at all of them. They look like they’re going to pray,’ Sofia said.
