Soldier father returns home and son overcome with emotion

A military dad returning home to Ireland was greeted with excitement by his daughter but his young son was to overcome with emotion to move.

Soldier Ian Gavagan was one of 100 members of the Casement Aerodrome military base arriving in Dublin after spending six months in the Golan Heights, a region in the Levant.

Video shows the emotional scenes of Mr Gavagan being greeted by family, who run up to him screaming, bursting with enthusiasm for the long-anticipated reunion.

But Mr Gavagan’s son, Sean, is not found amidst the hugging and kissing of his Dad’s arrival – he’s stopped in the middle of the walk, head down and in tears at the first sight of his father.

The adorable scene starts with Mr Gavagan’s daughter screaming ‘Daddy!’ and rushing over to greet her father.

There’s hugs and kisses until the reunited family realises that little Sean is nowhere to be found in the warm embrace.

Looking back, the family sees Sean where they left him before running – he’s in tears after getting a first glance at his returning dad.

A man, assumed to be a colleague of Mr Gavagan, walks over to Sean, bending down to see if he’s alright and eventually leads him over to greet his father.
