Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has NO sympathy for the West Ham boss David Moyes despite ill-fated 10-month stint at Manchester United, insisting you ‘can’t feel sorry’ for someone who’s managed the club
- David Moyes lasted only 10 months at United after succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson
- Moyes said Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been given more time in July last year
- Solskjaer has been the permanent manager at Old Trafford since March 2019
- The Red Devils are aiming for second – their highest finish since 2017-18
- West Ham have been transformed under Moyes as they push for the top four
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has offered little sympathy to David Moyes and his troubled 10-month tenure at Old Trafford, as the Manchester United manager comes up against the West Ham boss tonight.
Moyes had the tough task of taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson at United back in 2013, but with the side struggling in seventh, his six-year contract lasted just 10 months.
He’s enjoyed better fortune at West Ham. He saved them from relegation in his first stint in the 2017-18 season, before turning them into top-four challengers this season.
David Moyes struggled to live up to expectations at Manchester United, lasting just 10 months
Solskjaer took over as caretaker manager at United in December 2018 and was made permanent in March the following year, but he could only guide United to sixth place.
The former Red Devils striker oversaw a third-place finish last year, and the club are now in pole position to finish second.
Moyes has always been disappointed with the amount of time he was given at United. In July last year he said ‘Ole had a difficult start, but the difference between Ole and me is that he’s being given time.’
But Solskjaer has no room to sympathise with Moyes, saying that he shouldn’t be surprised at the way things turned out.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has put United in a position to earn their best league finish since 2017-18
‘I don’t think you can feel sorry for someone who has managed Manchester United, but he’s proving again what he’s capable of at West Ham,’ Solskjaer said.
‘In football, you shouldn’t be surprised at anything, but I’ve got to say that David has made massive improvements with the West Ham team – this season and last season as well,’ he added.
‘They have got (Mikel) Antonio really flying, (Thomas) Soucek is scoring goals – and he has really built on that.
‘After a poor start – I remember they lost 2-0 to Newcastle on the opening day – David made some decisions, stuck with them, and they are up there on merit.
‘You don’t get results over a long period without working at it – and you can see how well organised they are.’
West Ham have the chance to go level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea if they can beat United at Old Trafford tonight.
