The grieving son of alleged murder victim Sarah Miles has said he will be haunted ‘for the rest of my life’ by the fact his mother lay ‘for an hour on the floor’ waiting for help.

Shayden Miles’ mum died at her home in Casino in northern NSW after it reportedly took 55 minutes for police to attend the home after receiving the emergency call for the mother-of-three.

Ms Miles was ‘still breathing’ around 2.25am last Saturday when police finally arrived for a 1.30am call out, but by the time paramedics arrived she had died at the scene.

The 40-year-old died from head and facial injuries allegedly inflicted by her partner Dwayne John Creighton who was arrested and charged with murder at the weekend.

Shayden told Channel Nine that ‘my mother was a very strong person, a fighter always to the end.

‘Words cannot describe the pain I’m feeling at the moment,’ he said.

‘It’s not just the loss, it’s the fact she was waiting for an hour on the floor and that is something that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

‘I’m so proud of her and proud to have her as my mother and I’m proud to have been her son.’

Ms Miles’ family issued a statement thanking the ‘first responders and the public for their condolences.

‘This is a tragic and unbelievable loss for her children and family who she loved dearly,’ the statement said.

‘Sarah was a loving, talented and compassionate person, she made an impact on everyone she met.

‘Sarah will be missed by many people and we ask that you give the family some privacy in this tragic time.’

Dwayne Creighton appeared in Lismore Magistrates Court on Sunday morning via AVL from the Lismore police cells, and was due to appear again on Monday.

Nine reported that police were seeking CCTV vision for the weeks leading up to the alleged murder from the Caltex petrol station which is on the same street in Casino where Ms Miles lived and where the alleged murder took place.

A neighbour said she heard ‘horrific’ screams coming from the house around midnight on Friday.

Police received a ‘concern for welfare’ call to Johnston Street, Casino just after 1:30am on Saturday, but it took cops nearly an hour to acknowledge the call. Officers arrived at the home two minutes later.

NSW Assistant Commissioner Peter McKenna said at the weekend that when officers arrived they found a woman with ‘obvious’ head injuries.

Ms Miles was still breathing, but by the time paramedics arrived, her condition had deteriorated and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have launched a critical incident investigation into the delayed response to the Triple-0 call.

NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley described the incident, the 47th alleged domestic violence murder this year as ‘horrific’ and said DV crime was one of her ‘top priorities’.

‘Domestic violence is one of the most atrocious crimes in our society that impacts not only the victim but their family, friends and entire community.,’ she said.
