Sophie Turner reveals she will ‘probably exhibit signs of trauma in the future’

She was catapulted into the spotlight when she was cast in her first TV role as Sansa Stark in Game Of Thrones at the tender age of just 13.

And pregnant actress Sophie Turner, now 26, has reflected on how she coped with the ‘heavy subject matter’ of the series – known for its violent and sexual scenes – when she was young.

She explained how she will ‘probably exhibit some signs of trauma in the future’ due to what she was exposed to while shooting the hugely-popular fantasy drama.

Difficult: Sophie Turner has revealed she will ‘probably exhibit signs of trauma in the future’ after being exposed to ‘heavy subject matter’ during Game Of Thrones filming when she was just 13 (pictured in series one as her character Sansa Stark)

In a new interview by Jessica Chastain for The Cut, said she tried her upmost to ‘have the most fun’ in between takes so she didn’t get overwhelmed and had her mother as a chaperone on set.

Sophie told the publication: ‘The subject matter was so heavy that I just developed a coping mechanism of just having the most fun in between takes, so I wouldn’t get traumatised.

‘I’m sure I’ll exhibit some symptoms of trauma down the road. At that age, I don’t think I could comprehend a lot of the scene matter.

‘And the first few years, I had my mom with me because she was chaperoning me, so she would be very helpful and give me snacks.’

She made her acting debut as Sansa on the HBO epic fantasy television series in 2011, for which she received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2019.

She continued to play the part for the whole eight series until the show came to an end in 2019.

During the interview Sophie also discussed how she found her identity after ten years playing the part and how she broke free from being ‘the person that everyone else saw’.

She said she is now evolving into the person she should have done all that time ago by developing her own tastes and taking the parts she wants to take.

She looked stunning on The Cut print cover wearing a sheer silver dress with a black bra underneath as she cradled her baby bump.

It comes after earlier this month Sophie showed off her growing baby bump while gracing the cover of Elle UK’s June issue, after confirming her second pregnancy.

In the candid interview the actress spoke about her marriage to her husband Joe Jonas, 32, and said motherhood was ‘the perfect thing to move on to’ after her hit show Game Of Thrones ended.

Sophie said she was so ‘excited’ to expand their family – after welcoming daughter Willa, 22 months, in July 2020.

The star showed off her bare baby bump in a cropped navy Louis Vuitton jacket featuring moon prints, which she teamed up with a navy skirt for the stunning cover shot.

She told the magazine of motherhood: ‘It’s what life is about for me – raising the next generation. The greatest thing in life is seeing my daughter go from strength to strength. We’re so excited to be expanding the family. It’s the best blessing ever.

She also revealed she was grateful for this new phase in her life after feeling ‘lost’ when her hit show Game Of Thrones ended in 2019. Soon after leaving her role of Sansa Stark, Sophie married Joe in a surprise Vegas wedding.

‘I’m quite glad I had that next thing to move on to,’ she told ELLE. ‘If I hadn’t found Joe, I think I would have felt quite lost after Game of Thrones.’

‘And I did feel quite lost after it finished. But it forced me into this new chapter, which was really exciting and something for me to focus on. It was the perfect thing to move on to.’

She added that she and Joe have conversations about how they juggle their public and private lives, explaining: ‘I’m very protective of the life we’ve built. Every time Joe and I do a red carpet together, we make sure it’s for the right reason and makes sense for our careers.

‘You never want to market yourself as a celebrity couple. It’s not that cool. And my daughter never asked for any of this.

‘I know what it can do to your mental health to be in this industry, and to be photographed every day and have the comments.

‘It’s not something I want her to deal with unless she says, ‘This is what I want to do.’ We’re quite strict about that.’

Sophie and Joe were initially linked after they were seen getting affectionate at a 2016 concert in the Netherlands.

The singer was previously romantically involved with figures such as Taylor Swift and Gigi Hadid before he met his now-wife.

The couple announced they had become engaged after a year of dating in October of 2017 and shocked many when they held a wedding ceremony in Las Vegas in May of 2019.

The pair held a second wedding ceremony, which took place in France, later that year.

It was claimed that the X-Men: Apocalypse actress was pregnant with her first child in February of 2020.

A source told In Touch that the movie star and her husband ‘are absolutely ecstatic and can’t wait for Willa to have a sibling.’

They went on to state that the happy couple had a plan in place regarding the revelation of their child’s name.

The insider stated: ‘Picking a name, which they aren’t sharing with anyone until the baby arrives, is what they’re really excited about.’

They added that Sophie was a ‘private person and won’t make an official announcement about the pregnancy until she’s ready.’
