South Australian mother welcomes murder investigation into son’s death

The grieving mother of a man who died after being found unconscious on the side of a street, has welcomed the murder investigation launched.

Adrian Trett, 45, was found lying alongside his scooter with a serious head injury in Mannum, South Australia around 7am on Monday April 23.

He was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital where he died 12 days later.

Mr Trett’s mother Mira said she always suspected her son’s death was the result of foul play, and lent her support to the investigation after it was announced on Friday.

Mr Trett’s mother Mira told 9News the launch of the investigation confirmed what his family had feared.

‘I always had this suspicion it would be a murder,’ she said.

‘It’s terrible, not only my son, but any human being. It is just a terrible, terrible thing to do.

‘You don’t give birth to a child to bury them,’ Ms Trett added.

Police are looking for three people that they suspect were seen wrapping blankets around him.

‘Our inquiries not only concern how Mr Trett sustained his head injury, but how and why he came to be in David Street,’ said Inspector Billy Thompson, from the Major Crime Investigation Branch in a statement.

‘We are still investigating the full circumstances of this matter.’

‘We have reports from witnesses that up to three people were standing near him, but we don’t know the identity of those people. It is suspected they were wrapping these three blankets around him,’ Inspector Thompson said.

Police have released the image of the blankets Mr Trett was found wrapped in and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

‘I’m appealing for anyone that may have any information about these blankets, or the identity of the three people, to come forward.’
